Prototype systems of MSMA

Abstract of prototype system

Director’s team owns a prototype system using 1W transmitter power output at 918MHz band (compliant with Japanese UHF-band passive RFID regulation). The prototype system is used in our experiments.

Sensor nodes

Sensor nodes of MSMA are prototyped in 2016. The node can accommodate any kinds of external sensors in addition to embedded accelerometer.

A prototype MSMA sensor node

The prototype sensor nodes are powered by batteries due to their high energy consumption caused by discrete components. When they are placed near an interrogator (within 50cm), completely passive operation without batteries is also available with their embedded energy harvesters. It is possible to receive sensor data streaming by battery-powered sensor nodes at 15~20m distance from the interrogator.

Another type of sensor nodes is also prototyped. They cannot operate without batteries but are small because power harvesters are not embedded.

Interrogator

We develop interrogators implementing interference rejection techniques of MSMA with software-defined radio (SDR). NI USRP and LabVIEW Communications/LabVIEW NXG are used as SDR frontend and programming platform, respectively.
